The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) and the IEC District seek a Summer Intern to assist with field, laboratory, and office work associated with its water quality monitoring activities in the IEC District Tri-State area. The intern will participate in a variety of water quality surveys via boat, wading, and land to perform field measurements and collect ambient water samples. In addition to sample collection and transport, duties will include laboratory analyses of water samples, and preparation of bottles, coolers, equipment, and quality control activities. The intern will assist with IEC’s inspections program related to municipal discharges, industrial discharges, pump stations, and dry-weather CSO and MS4 discharges and with the IEC’s citizen science program. The intern will also assist with the preparation of and organization of documents and materials related to IEC’s projects for dissemination to stakeholders and the public. The position will require 37.5 hours per week. The anticipated start date is June 1, 2017 with an estimated end date of September 30, 2017 and a possible extension to a full-time position. Interviews will take place in early April 2017.
The successful candidate will have a minimum 3 years of satisfactory progress towards a bachelor’s degree in the environmental sciences, biology, or a related field. Proven desire and ability to work outside under a variety of environmental conditions, and a valid driver’s license required. Demonstrated field and laboratory experience is a plus, as well as experience with Microsoft Access and Excel, GIS software, and website maintenance.
