The Bronx High School of Science (BHSS) won the 2012 National Ocean Science Bowl Regional competition that was held at Stony Brook, NY on March 3, 2012. NOAA -CREST sponsors the BHSS NOSB Oceanography team since 2003. The BHSS earlier won the first North East Regional NOSB regionals in the year 2004 also known as the "Bay Scallop Bowl" and the team will compete in the National event to be held in Baltimore on April 19-22, 2012.

NOAA-CREST will felicitate all the four teams during the NOAA-CREST Day on April 19, 2012 to be held in the NOAA-CREST Center, at the City College of New York.

Since 2003, NOAA-CREST has adopted and worked with Bronx High School of Science (BHSS) in recruiting and training the 9-12 Grade students in  marine and oceanic sciences to compete in the National Ocean Science Bowl regional competition each year in the Stony Brook University, NY. This is the second time since 2003 that BHSS won the regional title. Sixteen schools from NE/NY regional participated in the regionals this year, and other contestants who placed in the Bay Scallop Bowl were; Second Place - Mount Sinai High School, and Third Place was a first-year entry, Great Neck High School South. Organizers were thrilled with all the schools and awarded the Sportsmanship Award to Division Avenue High School, who will receive a gift certificate in the amount of $100.

NOAA-CREST has worked closely with the BHSS/NOSB team and provided necessary financial and education resources to build the Oceanography team at the BHSS campus. This inculcates an early interest among students in Marine and Ocean science and build a better STEM pathways for their college education in STEM fields related to NOAA Sciences. Many of these BHSS/NOSB champs come back to NOAA-CREST to do the CREST-SHIP (Summer High School Internship) program, and choose to study get into the NOAA-CREST Undergraduate Program (ESE) after their graduation.

The 15th Annual National Ocean Sciences Bowl National Competition will be held in Baltimore, Maryland from April 19 – 22, 2012 at the Sheraton City Center. Best of luck to the Bronx High School of Science!
